Hi, I am Hannah. I am a Registered Mental Health Social Worker, and have the privilege of working therapeutically with individuals across the lifespan. My priority is to offer a safe, client-centered and compassionate space where clients feel heard, empowered, and in control of their own stories. In my private practice, I am a provider for ACC Sensitive Claims. I maintain a part-time practice within Canterbury District Health Board Specialty Mental Health Service, where I am a member of the Dialectical Behaviour Team for Adolescents. My practice philosophy is informed by Ecological Systems Theory, Attachment Theory and Trauma-Informed Theory.

I offer in-person and online counselling for adults and young people, using proven therapeutic methods for meaningful, lasting change. My humanistic, person-centred, and pluralistic approach fosters self-awareness, acceptance, and personal growth, tailored to each client’s unique needs. Guided by Carl Rogers's core conditions and existential theory, I support individuals in finding meaning and achieving their goals through insight and self-responsibility.

I offer therapy sessions with a holistic approach (modelled on Dr Mason Durie Te Whare Tapa Wha Model), I call it 'courageous conversations',. I am not here to fix the problem but to support my clients to work through barriers that sometime prevent the steps towards being/feeling better, which is often about looking inwards , which is often about looking inward to come back out. Often its about being learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, sitting in a level of quiet - and I will always hold space, because sometimes that is the best therapy. I work with a lense that looks at the culture of an individual, as we all have a story, and we all sometimes carry the damage or disruption of yesterday. I am a passionate counsellor with four years of experience, specializing in person-centered and narrative therapy consistently working through a trauma-informed lens. I support rangatahi (youth) and whānau (families) who have faced challenges such as anxiety, domestic violence, emotional dysregulation, and parental separation, providing a safe space for healing and growth. My experience includes working in schools with both students and teachers, as well as facilitating a parenting program in men’s prisons. In my current role, I am dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential while supporting parents to be the best caregivers for their tamariki. As an advocate for meaningful change, I hold hope for individuals and families, especially during times where it may feel out of reach. I also offer virtual counseling consultations, making it easy for individuals to access support from the comfort of their own home

Having experienced supporting a loved one with an eating disorder, my passion lies in supporting parents and carers of loved ones in this area through their challenging journey, where I can guide you and provide resources. I have participated in further training in this area to broaden my knowledge of eating disorders to support you even further. My aim while working alongside you is to build a strong reciprocal mana-enhancing relationship and safe space, connectedness and foster a sense of belonging and inclusion. I am able to support you in any area of your life you wish to improve and aim to help you recognise your strengths, overcome challenges and be the best version of yourself. I aim to help you work through past challenges and develop the skills to live your life how you want to. I have worked in public health, both inpatient and outpatient settings. I exclusively use evidence-based practice for effective, lasting positive change. I have a particular interest in the resolution of childhood adversity and/or trauma and how these experiences intricately intertwine with present day difficulties.

I can provide social work advocacy and counseling interventions using integrative and holistic therapeutic approaches bilingually (English and Mandarin). Since 2007, I have worked in the health sector providing social work and counselling in different settings. In 2017 I set up a private practice to fully utilise my knowledge and skills to benefit local communities. I believe that there is no one perfect model when working in New Zealand – the island of diversity. I have experience in work in child protection cases, family and intimate partner violence, working with the rainbow community, and youth counselling. I have also worked with parents experiencing challenges with their relationship with their child(ren) and considering different approaches. My style is holistic and I enjoy working alongside clients to co-develop a plan that works for you. This often includes strength-based work and consideration for all the macro and micro factors in any given situation. Part of this includes thinking about he things we can control and acknowledging those that we can't, but that do impact our lives. I have accumulated over 20 years of experience in the field of social services, where I have dealt with a wide range of complex issues such as mental health, addictions, co-existing problems, high-risk family harm, and the management of community agencies and teams. My expertise lies in handling challenging situations that require a well-balanced approach. Throughout my career, I have worked with both victims and perpetrators of violence, allowing me to develop a non-judgmental perspective. I genuinely believe that people aspire to lead happier lives, but at times they lack the necessary guidance. To address this, I employ various therapeutic techniques tailored to the individual I am working with. I am well-versed in cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, Te Whare Tapa Wha and I use Brainspotting & Hypnotherapy for Trauma work.
