I am very experienced working with young people, I have a background in youth development and in my therapeutic work I spent five years as a guidance counsellor. I am particularly interested in working with adults, young people and parents who identify as LGBTIQ+, transgender and non-binary, and parents who have children that are LGBTIQ+ I take a friendly, relaxed and positive approach in my work. Hi, my name is Rachel, and I am a Registered Social Worker. My path towards counselling began in 2021 after further study in Psychology, when I began counselling teens at risk of homelessness, followed by child and family counselling. I opened my own practice. 'Calm & Co.' in October 2023, where I support children, teens, families and couples in a safe, confidential, empathetic, non-judgmental and calm space. I am a firm believer that people are the experts in their own lives, and I work in a collaborative way to develop strategies that will meet every individual’s unique support needs, whether that takes a structured approach using counselling models and interventions, or providing an understanding ear for people to vent without being judged.

I offer both in-person and on-line counselling for those experiencing any type of emotional distress, including, anxiety, depressive mood, grief and loss, bullying, and relational challenges. I have a strong background working with young people from 12-24yrs, māori indigenous to Aotearoa, and pacific peoples. Having said this, I have worked with children from age 4yrs through to those aged 80yrs, from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I have studied, CBT, Hakomi Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Somatic Approaches to Trauma Therapy and currently EMDR (and more). All of the approaches I draw on, are grounded in a similar concept, which is the belief that all people have an innate drive to move towards wellbeing, and so, the potential to grow and heal. My role is to provide expert knowledge and support, that best fits every individual client.
