I am the author of the "Out of the Fog" programme delivered in group and individual therapy which has helped hundreds of people to recover/become well from depression/anxiety. I am particularly interested in working with clients who are motivated to live their best life, reach their goals, and recognise their agency and responsibility for creating a life they are proud of. I am very experienced working with young people, I have a background in youth development and in my therapeutic work I spent five years as a guidance counsellor. I am particularly interested in working with adults, young people and parents who identify as LGBTIQ+, transgender and non-binary, and parents who have children that are LGBTIQ+ I take a friendly, relaxed and positive approach in my work. I am empathetic and sensitive to the needs of my client. I am interested in developing solid client-therapist relationships centred on trust, authenticity and empowerment. I am reflective and considered in my practice with a good sense of humour. Social justice is close to my heart.

As a counsellor with over 10 years of experience, I support individuals navigating mental health challenges, addiction, trauma, and life transitions. My approach combines evidence-based psychological methods with a holistic, culturally respectful perspective. Tēnā koe, ko Andrea ahau. I offer both in-person and on-line counselling for those experiencing any type of emotional distress, including, anxiety, depressive mood, grief and loss, bullying, and relational challenges. I have a strong background working with young people from 12-24yrs, māori indigenous to Aotearoa, and pacific peoples. Having said this, I have worked with children from age 4yrs through to those aged 80yrs, from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I have studied, CBT, Hakomi Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Somatic Approaches to Trauma Therapy and currently EMDR (and more). All of the approaches I draw on, are grounded in a similar concept, which is the belief that all people have an innate drive to move towards wellbeing, and so, the potential to grow and heal. My role is to provide expert knowledge and support, that best fits every individual client.

As a wife, mother and daughter, I know the many hats we wear to care for others, yet we at times forget to care for ourselves. Making the decision to start a counselling journey is a courageous step towards self-care, I look forward to supporting you on your healing journey.

There are so many challenges in life and each person is a unique individual. My work is tailored to fit the needs of my clients, although my understanding of clients is from a psychoanalytic/depth perspective. I work with individuals and couples who are experiencing everyday challenges as well as those who have significant difficulties.
